A PDF ready for someone else to read.

Write in Markdown, review the rendered document, then save a PDF through your browser’s print dialog. Use page breaks to keep the next section where you want it.

Start with a short document and check the rendered text. These values are illustrative.

Preview the document before exporting

Open the document in the editor and check the rendered preview. Let images, equations, and diagrams finish loading. The editor’s print action can use this rendered content, so inspect the actual document rather than relying only on its Markdown source.

Choose the PDF or print action, then select Save as PDF in the browser’s print dialog. The exact wording depends on your browser and operating system. Choose a filename and save the output. This creates a separate PDF copy; it does not publish a public web page.

Choose where a new page starts

Put ::pb:: on its own line between sections to insert a page break in the editor. For a short report, write your Results section, add the marker on a separate line, and then start the Method section.

Choose “Add a page break” in the example above to see the Markdown and the two sections on separate pages. Actual pagination also depends on paper size, margins, scale, and content length. The Markdown to PDF guide covers common formatting problems and alternative conversion tools.

Check tables, figures, and equations

Scan each page in the print preview. A wide table may need shorter labels or a landscape layout. A tall figure may need resizing. Check that a heading is not stranded at the bottom of a page and that the explanation remains near the item it describes.

KaTeX equations and already-rendered diagrams can be included in the printed document. A PDF records the rendered result; interactive charts do not remain interactive. For a missing figure, return to the editor and check its image URL or diagram syntax before trying again.

Keep the editable source with the PDF

Use Markdown for the document you will revise and PDF for the copy you send or archive. Download the .md source separately if you need both. PDF export does not turn the source into an editable PDF form or provide a journal’s submission template.

For research, the research notes workflow keeps observations, calculations, and references in one source document. If you want a link that you can update later, use publishing instead of sending a new attachment for each revision.
